DBI - Week 10

Differentation strategy of the week...
Give clue sheets which allow students to seek support for a task if required.

  1. I often give out an envelope with an activity. Inside the envelope is a prompt and/or some directed question. The student choose when or whether to access the support available.

  2. This is a nice strategy to enable students to get help without drawing attention to themselves in front of the whole class. It also allows them to judge whether they want support and independently seek it, rather than the teacher deciding. Clue sheets can involve definitions, hints as to how to approach a question, etc.

  3. I really like using this one too. Certainly in English, one of the issues is getting students to ask the right questions of a text; so the clue sheet can simply be more focused questions.

I tried a variation of it this week for Year 11 where students had to complete the work themselves as best they could, before getting a version I had done if they wanted. It was an activity where there weren't necessarily right or wrong answers, so the idea was that they could use my version to supplement theirs if they wished.
